The Cabanas Guesthouse and Spa Hosts Olympic Diver Matthew Mitcham

Australian Olympic Gold Medalist Matthew Mitcham to be inducted in the Swimming Hall of Fame

The Cabanas Guesthouse is delighted to host Australian Olympic Diver Matthew Mitcham during October for his induction into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Having achieved the highest single-dive score in Olympic history at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing, China, Matthew executed an extremely difficult dive (two-and-one-half somersault with two-and-one-half twists in the pike position) for his final dive. The judges awarded him four 10s, making history and acquiring him the gold medal for this event, while also being the first openly gay male to win an Olympic Gold Medal.

Matthew also found success in the 10-meter platform, springboard, and synchro 3-meter/10-meter Olympic events and won Australia its first Olympic gold medal in diving, since Dick Eve at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Mathew will be inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022. Come join Mitcham and this year’s class of 2022 in Ft. Lauderdale and congratulations from the Cabanas Guesthouse to Mathew and all of the inductees into this year’s International Swimming Hall of Fame.
